The Amazon Principle...(ART=4 min)

The Amazon Principle

I heard faint voices from across the vast pain

But couldn't hear words because of thunder and rain.

The cry of the Sirens, a call to my doom,

With visions of capture, being locked in a tomb.

My horse pawed the ground and refused to go on.

So I slowly dismounted in the wet early dawn.

My eyes looked for tracks, while my ears searched for danger -

Was this a plot of old magick, or a mere harbinger?

A dark menace roared in the sky far away,

With sharp bolts of lightning, hailing its way.

The echo of conquest, amidst screams of terror,

Something ravaged the land in a huge massacre.

I paused for long moments, confused to inaction;

For my ultimate goal lay in that direction.

Circe, my mount and my friend on this trek,

Nuzzled into me, as I stroked his long neck.

I whispered soft words - my intent was to comfort,

But his ears remained pricked, on constant alert.

My mind was made up - I've a job to complete,

And swung up on his back - there was death to defeat.

This penchant of mine, of which I don't understand,

To ride into the maw, upon a silent command.

Risking my life, not to mention my mount,

On a strange inner voice, which later I can't recount.

The sounds of harsh battle sent a jolt down my spine,

Blood lust ignites - my beating heart a sure sign.

Drawing to the seen of carnage, I bring Circe to a halt.

There's a handful of some women, braving the assault.

I had no time to choose my side, for it was chosen for me.

Two of the black men, charged at me, screaming like a banshee.

In seconds they had met their maker, and then I charged their line,

I skewered and scattered, and finally added, a head to my own shrine.

The slavers tried to draw back, now unsure of further action

And I leaped down from my lathered mount, in the makeshift garrison.

Amazons surrounded me, with their long blades dripping crimson,

A word, and then some movement, and a form distinctly feminine.

Before me stood a goddess, with a sparkle in her eye,

She seemed to peer into my soul, amidst her soldier's outcry.

The slavers had regrouped, and then they pressed attack,

While me and this strange goddess, stood fighting back to back.

Their spirit finally broken, and in their haste, left dead behind,

They scattered in a wild frenzy, as we bravely charged their line.

No single quarter given, nor would any life would be spared.

They chose their fate and can bare the blame – I could not have cared.

Attending to the funeral rites, the Amazons kept busy,

I tried to take my leave with pride but they had plans for me.

I was finally brought before their queen, watched her eyes spark bright again,

We made love through the moaning night, amidst the softly falling rain.

Our passion seemed to have no limits, I thought some work of magick?

But lost myself in a wave of need, but the outcome then turned tragic.

As I look back on that time with rage, I have no qualms to state,

When I was beaten and chased from their village, my love then turned to hate.

It took me many years of pain to bury memories deep

But sometimes in a quiet moment, I cannot help but weep.

Imagine finding out, like me, while at Appollo’s alter

That the haunting time from so long ago had produced a daughter.
