Second Thoughts

If given the chance, would you change anything?
In your life - past actions or the places you've been?
This question has merit and is frequently queried
When the trials of life leave us anxious and wearied.
Thinking back on your childhood, is your memory obscure?
Is the pain more remembered, and of the good you're unsure?
To describe in a word, it's understanding we lack
But I hasten to add that we should seldom look back.

When I left from home, not quite by my choice,
I found through my trials that I had a voice.
I'd determine my future, make some odd mistake
And try to learn from my choices and the paths that I take.
Leave the past to the past and live in today,
Is a lesson hard learned in a difficult way.
We'll listen to friends but their opinions don't rule,
And our time spent in prayer can be a valuable tool.
If I had the choice would I change anything?
My answer is no, for I've nothing to gain.
Today, I look in the mirror without any dread,
And when I walk down the street, I proudly hold up my head.
